What is Fescue Grass?

Fescue grasses are cool-season grasses, and are grown mainly in the transition zone of the United States and into Canada. They are tolerant to both drought and shade and grow well under different weather conditions. This type of turfgrass stays green all year long, making it an excellent choice for lawns.

In general, most cool-season grass species do not perform well in the lower area of the transition zone where the seasons are too hot for them to survive. Many warm-season grasses cannot thrive in the upper part of the transition zone where the seasons are too cool for the grasses to grow.

Fescues grasses effectively fill this gap in growing conditions, and have been known to thrive where many other species will not grow.

Formulas to Help You Determine How Much Sod You Need

  • There are 9 square feet in a yard.
  • Square feet divided by 9 equals yards.
  • Figure out how many square feet you need. Divide it by 9 and that will equal the yards needed.
  • One full roll of sod is 42 in X 83 ft. Rolls can be ordered in the desired foot length.
